Robert De Niro rips GOP, Donald Trump

Robert De Niro rips GOP, Donald Trump[HMG Celebrity News] ? Even among other actors Robert De Niro is regarded as something special, but in a recent chat with NBC?s Brian Williams he showed there?s more to him than films. He loves Saturday Night Live and is also a fan of President Obama, which is causing some pain.

The conversation touched on his movies, his future projects and his frequent guest spots on SNL, but when the topic reached politics and the recent threat of a government shut-down it touched a nerve.

?I think of the possibility, and I say, ?How did we get to this point??? he said, clearly perturbed. ?And I know Obama was trying to bridge the gap. His intentions are really good. A lot of these guys, they?re just playing the game. And they?re playing with people?s lives.?

The 67-year old double-Oscar winner, who campaigned for the President in 2008 also seemed sickened by all the chatter about birth certificates.

?I won?t mention names, but certain people in the news, what are they doing?? he asked Brian. ?Go get the facts before you start saying things about people.?

Williams pressed him for names and De Niro admitted Donald Trump topped his list as the worst offender.

?It?s like being a car salesman,? De Niro explained. ?Don?t say things unless you can back them up. That?s awful, to just say these terrible things. It?s crazy.?

This adds Rob?s name to a growing list of celebs offended by the Donald?s behavior ? As we told you last week, Jerry Seinfeld already canceled a gig with Don?s son because of his dad?s endless doubting.

But despite all the awards and acclaim, among Rob?s favorite things are his frequent guest spots on SNL;

?They do better work on SNL than actors do,? he admits. ?I think it?s great. Whenever I?m doing a big dramatic scene, I say to myself, ?I wonder what they?ll do with this on Saturday Night Live. But it?s a lot of fun. It?s so fast you can?t even think.?

So there you have it ? Oscar winner, political pundit and lover of farce. He?s clearly firm in his views, but is he right ? let?s hear your take on this tale?
