Roger Ebert debuts new chin for new show

[HMG Celebrity News] ? Completing a long recovery from cancer that made him an inspiration to thousands of sufferers so far unknown, Roger Ebert will return as the nation?s premier film critic tonight, and he plans to lead with his chin.

Now 68, Roger was diagnosed with aggressive thyroid cancer in 2002. Multiple surgeries followed, one of which cost him most of his jaw and his voice. Radiation therapy then made an artery burst and nearly killed him. But now free of the disease and with a Macintosh helping him speak, Hollywood?s favorite nemesis is back on PBS.

And he plans to wear a false chin so fans can remember his former appearance;

?I will wear the prosthesis on the new show,? Roger writes on his blog. ?That?s not to fool anyone, because my appearance is widely known. It will be used in a medium shot and will be a pleasant reminder of the person I was for 64 years.?

But Roger?s aware the new chin will not be the viewers? main focus;

?When people see the ?Roger?s Office? segment, they?ll notice my voice more than my appearance,? he admits.

And his ideas for how Doctors could restore that appearance were quite unpretentious;

?I suggested a false beard which I would wear suspended from hooks over my ears, like a kid playing Abe Lincoln in the school play.? he recalls.

Instead, the medicine men took some pictures, then Julie Jordan Brown, an artist and ?Anaplastologist? from Milwaukee created Roger?s new look. And he loves it.

?I?d say they did a pretty wonderful damn job,? he enthuses. ?I like my new prothesis and know their work was painstaking and done with love and care.?

And a new face has also given Roger a brighter outlook;

?Something else has happened since that day in the hospital,? he admits. ?I accept the way I look. Lord knows I paid the dues.?

In the new show, Christy Lemire and Ignatiy Vishnevetsky will review the new movies, while Roger will discuss both new films and the classics. And the true scale of this restoration can be witnessed is his new motto;

?You know what they say: If you don?t have it, flaunt it.?
