Songwriting duo Brett Anderson and Bernard Butler have opened up about their bitter split, confessing they both regret the break-up.
The pair shot to fame in British band Suede, but the partnership broke down during recording sessions for the group's second album in 1994.
Butler eventually issued an ultimatum and then walked away from the band - and both musicians now admit they were wrong to split a hit songwriting team up.
It was about being pushed into that decision... I didn't do everything in my power to make him stayBrett Anderson
Butler tells Mojo magazine, "Being an arrogant little s**t... I made a really childish stand-off, to see how much they really wanted me, and I deserved everything I got."
Anderson adds, "It was about being pushed into that decision... I didn't do everything in my power to make him stay, which I massively regret now... It was my cowardice that led to the split... if I'd had the guts to just pick up the phone the inevitable fracture could have been avoided."
Suede have recently reformed without Butler, who insists he'll never be a part of the group because the guitarist "hates the idea of reunions".
