Chinese Government Brands Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Backstreet Boys as ?National Threats?

American musicians such as Lady Gaga, Beyonc, Katy Perry and Backstreet Boys have been regarded as threats to their ?cultural national security? by the Chinese government.

A general order has been given to all the music sites being operated in China to delete the music made by the above mentioned artists along with some others. According to The Associated Press, China?s Ministry of Cultural has released a list of 100 foreign songs that it wants deleted from websites operating in the country. Unspecified punishments will be imposed on those who don?t follow the orders by September 15.

Half a dozen of Mother Monster?s songs have been blacklisted. Those songs are: ?The Edge of Glory,? ?Hair,? ?Marry the Night,? ?Americano,? ?Judas? and ?Bloody Mary.? Queen B?s ?Run the World (Girls)? and Perry?s ?Last Friday Night? are also among the outlawed tunes. The most surprising of all the banned songs is Backstreet Boys? ?I Want It That Way,? which unlike all the others, is quite old and was released more than ten years ago.

The Chinese wrath hasn?t only been faced by the American singers. The list has also banned tens of Hong Kong and Taiwanese tracks too. Screening foreign entertainment content for cryptic comments aimed towards them has been a longstanding practice of the Chinese government. The 2008 incident when Icelandic singer Bjork shouted ?Tibet? during his concert in Shanghai, has made the Chinese officials extra sensitive about the messages being passed in entertainment material.
