Sources close to the case say the deal with the L.A. County District Attorney means the 55-year old actor will appear in court on Friday and plead ?No contest? to one count of battery, related to the fight with Grigorieva on January 6th of last year.
The deal requires him to undergo counseling but no jail time is involved, and his lawyer sounds pretty relieved;
?Sometimes justice can come at a high personal price,? Blair Berk tells TMZ. ?That?s particularly so for Mel, whose right to due process can only be exercised with a media circus attached.?
Clearly paid by the word the legal eagle continued;
?Mel?s priority has been his daughter Lucia and the rest of his children. With them in mind he asked me to approach the DA with a proposal that would bring this to an end.?
Blair says his client had been ?agonizing? over how to resolve the case and believed he would win. But he was worried a long court fight and the intense media coverage would put his family through hell, so he made the deal instead.
